Treating Cancer From Western vs Medical Qigong Perspective

Lisa VanOstrand teaches medical qigong and qigong energy healing for 3 Treasures School of Medical Qigong in various places in the United States
by Lisa VanOstrand

The four major types of treatment in Western Medicine for cancer are surgery, radiation, chemotherapy, and biologic therapies. Hormone therapies such as tamoxifen are also available.

Medical Qigong therapy is a form of Chinese Energetic Medicine, and is one of the four foundational schools of Traditional Chinese Medicine. Medical Qigong predates acupuncture by thousands of years. Like Chinese Medicine, Medical Qigong views all diseases as a manifestation of an underlying imbalance. The Medical Qigong therapist uses energetic healing protocols on the client to purge toxic emotions from the body’s tissues, eliminate energetic stagnation, as well as strengthen and balance the internal organs. The client may also be given exercise prescriptions, which combine physical movements, breath, sound, visualization, and intention to facilitate the healing in between treatments.

Using an analogy of a plant, the tumor can be considered the flower or actual manifestation of the disease and the root of the plant as the actual root cause or support which feeds and nourishes the flower. Pulling out a weed without the attached roots of the weed, means that the weed will inevitably reappear sometime in the future. Thus, the flower as well as the root cause of the illness must be found and treated, otherwise the imbalance cannot be eradicated and worse yet, the disease or imbalance can be aggravated. Medical Qigong healing protocols and exercises work to get at the root of the patient’s imbalance.

Energy Healing with Qiqong

Lisa VanOstrand teaches qigong and qigong energy healing for 3 Treasures School of Medical Qigong in various places in the United StatesLisa VanOstrand teaches qigong and qigong energy healing for 3 Treasures School of Medical Qigong in various places in the United States, mainly Florida and New York.

What is Qigong?
Qigong is a combination of two ideas: Qi” (pronounced chee), means air, breath of life, or vital energy that flows through all things in the universe and Gong” (pronounced gung, as in lung) means the skill of working with, or cultivating, self-discipline and achievement. Together, Qigong means the skill of cultivating vital energy, or the ability to work with the electromagnetic energy of the body. The body is enveloped by Qi or electromagnetic currents, affecting both internal and external organ functions. As Qi is the fundamental energy that sustains life, it is present in every cell of the body.

What is Medical Qigong?

Medical qigong, is one of the four main branches of Chinese medicine along with acupuncture, herbal medicine, and medical massage. Medical Qigong is the study of the energetic map of the body based on classical and alchemical Chinese Medicine as well as more traditional Chinese Medicine. Medical Qigong techniques can be practiced on oneself for self-cultivation or on others as healing protocols. Prescription exercises, meditations and healing protocols, enhance body, mind and spirit and can also address the energetics of specific disease patterns.

3 Treasures School of Medical Qigong is a private, post secondary degree-granting institution recognized by the Florida Department of Education and Florida Commission on Independent Education under the authority of Florida State Statutes, Section 1005.06. Unfortunately, because of the New York state laws, the doctoral program will only be offered in Florida. The first class will be on Detoxification. The healing of all chronic diseases must begin with detoxification. This class will include all new material including: Medical Qigong exercises, healing protocols, as well as dietary/nutritional suggestions to support this process.

3 Treasures School of Medical Qigong has been accepted by the American Organization for Bodywork Therapies of Asia (AOBTA) as a candidate for their Council of Schools and Programs (COSP). This is quite an honor and I believe will add a level of prestige not only to Medical Qigong but also for graduates from the program. AOBTA is a national recognized organization that supports Asian bodywork and specifically recognizes Medical Qigong as one of its’ healing modalities.

Medical Qigong for the Heart

New Medical Qigong Certification Classes by Lisa Vanostrand Part I – By Lisa VanOstrand, DMQ

Editor’s Note: This is part 1 of a 3 part series that will focus on how medical qi gong can benefit the physical, mental-emotional and spiritual aspects of the heart.

According to the Center for Disease Control and Prevention, heart disease is the leading cause of death in the United States, affecting people of all ages and backgrounds. Coronary heart disease, in just the United States alone, costs close to 109 billion dollars a year.

The earliest qi gong came from the Chinese observing the movement of animals. By imitating the movement of a bird flapping its wings, we can bring enormous health benefits to the heart. All Medical qi gong has three aspects: posture, breath and intentionality.

Create A Protective Energy Field Using Medical Qi Gong

By Lisa VanOstrand, DMQ

Many people ask what they can do to protect themselves from outside influences. This is one of my favorite protective meditations from my medical qi gong teacher, Dr. Jerry Alan Johnson.

In modern energy healing modalities, it would not be considered unusual to hear of energy fields or auras. Even in Traditional Chinese Medicine the wei qi field is known to have a boundary that extends past the skin and its purpose is to offer protection. Pathogenic factors can enter in when our wei qi is weak. In addition to the wei qi field associated with the physical body, Dr. Jerry Alan Johnson defines a second and third wei qi or energy field associated with the mental/emotional and spiritual. With the spiritual energy field begin the furthest energy field out, next is the mental/emotional, and the physical energy field being the closest to the body.

This meditation is great to do before beginning your day of healing work. There are also certain places that one can use additional protection like entering a hospital, subway or airport.

Medical Qigong and Qigong Energy Healing in South Florida

3 Treasures Healing - Learn Medical QiQong Healing with Lisa VanOstrandMy name is Lisa VanOstrand and I am a senior instructor at the International Institute of Medical Qigong, where I hold the title of Dean of Psychology. I teach qigong and qigong energy healing in various places in the United States, mainly Florida and New York. I have studied extensively with Jerry Alan Johnson and also with Bernard Shannon, the current director of the International Institute of Medical Qigong (IIMQ). In fact, I was one of the early students of Jerry Alan Johnson and was the first person in Florida to receive my doctorate. As an IIMQ teacher, I have the longest history of teaching Medical Qigong in both Florida and New York. I have long been an avid pursuer of spirituality, starting my path with meditation and yoga.

Medical Qigong

Medical qigong, is one of the four main branches of Chinese medicine along with acupuncture, herbal medicine, and medical massage. Medical Qigong is the study of the energetic map of the body based on classical and alchemical Chinese Medicine as well as more traditional Chinese Medicine. Medical Qigong techniques can be practiced on oneself for self-cultivation or on others as healing protocols. Prescription exercises, meditations and healing protocols, enhance body, mind and spirit and can also address the energetics of specific disease patterns.

Clients Self-Practice

Meditation and spiritual practices Meditation and spiritual practices in whatever spiritual path the client feels most inspired by. This assists the client in connecting to something larger than themselves and understanding their condition from a greater perspective of wholeness. It also opens one to the possibility of tremendous healing forces that are available from the spiritual realms.

Dietary Changes are important to assist in the removal of stagnation and to give support to any deficiencies.

Medical Qigong prescription exercises Medical qigong exercises are simple movements and/or meditations that the client performs daily that will benefit their particular condition. Medical Qigong exercises combine the use of breath with individual physical movements, creative visualization and intention. The primary goal is to purge toxic emotions from within the body’s tissues, eliminate energetic stagnation, as well as strengthen and balance the internal organs and energetic fields. Medical Qigong exercises empower the client to realize that they are an integral part of their own healing process.

WARNING: WHAT EVERY CANCER PATIENT SHOULD KNOW…Before Starting on CHEMOTHERAPY

by Lisa VanOstrand, Dr. Of Medical Qigong (China)

3 Treasures Healing - Learn Medical QiQong Healing with Lisa VanOstrandThis article appeared in NEW LIFE  MAY-JUNE 2008 Issue and is by By Robert H. Sorge, N.D., Ph.D.  I wanted to include this on my blog as I often think chemotherapy is not the best option for clients with strong immune system and cancer that has not metastasized.  What is required is a complete life style change.  As Jeffrey Yuen, has repeatedly said “the consciousness that created the illness, is not the consciousness that can cure it”.  The people that I have known that have cured cancer have completely devoted their life to curing it, 24-7.  Regardless of the clients choice on chemotherapy, I support all clients in making the decisions that they and their family feel most comfortable with.

Most men and women reading this article have a good command of the English (American) language.  Even people whose own American language is their second language communicate quite well most of the time. For the most part we understand each other.  For example, if I were to ask you a simple question, such as, “What are my chances of seeing you tomorrow at twelve noon?”  Most of us, both native and foreign-born people, could understand and communicate a reasonable response to the question.

With orthodox drug medical doctors we have a completely different set of circumstances.  You may have noticed few of them speak the American language.  They have a gobblygoop language all of their own that is impossible for middle class America to clearly understand.  Worst of all it may even be designed so we don’t understand.

For example:  Prior to agreeing to begin the most toxic, dangerous, life sapping, medical treatment known to mankind, known as chemotherapy, most intelligent people usually ask, “Doctor, if I start on chemotherapy what are my chances?”

This is certainly a reasonable question communicated in the American language.  Under the circumstances the question deserves a clear, cogent, unambivalent answer in the language that we speak. It is my opinion that one of the rudest things a person can do when they understand the American language is to speak to you in a foreign tongue.

This is exactly what the orthodox drug medicine profession has gotten away with for 100 years.  It is dangerous to life’s decisions and even life itself.  It’s time we the people put an end to it.

How To Create A Protective Energy Field – QiQong

3 Treasures Healing - Learn Medical QiQong Healing with Lisa VanOstrandMany people ask me what they can do to protect themselves from outside influences. This is one of my favorite protective meditations from my Medical Qigong teacher, Dr Jerry Alan Johnson.

This meditation is great to do before beginning your day of healing work or anytime you feel you need extra protection like entering a hospital, subway or airport. Additionally, if you have tendencies to a collapsed, detached or any auric field issues, adding this meditation to your daily routine would be well advised. In my classes, I have people feel each other’s auric field before and after this meditation.

This particular meditation called the Wu Zang protection meditation comes from the Ming Dynasty. In hospitals in China, doctors would perform the meditation before treating patients.  In China, Wu means 5 and Zang means Organs; thus, the meditation is a protection for your 5 organs and also links you to the protective energies of heaven and earth.  Feel the ancient tradition of Chinese medicine linked with the archetypical energies of the animals, directions, colors and spiritual qualities of the organ energies; this will help make the meditation even more powerful for you.

WU ZANG PROTECTION MEDITATION INSTRUCTIONS

Start by focusing on the center of your body.  Imagine opening up the top of your head and being to pull qi from the heavens.  Imagine the divine light as a bright shining light, filling your entire body through the top of the head.  Imagine this white light energy coalescing into the body’s center core, forming a tube of heavenly energy that extends from the top of your head to the bottom of your feet.

Imagine the following by focusing on each organ, 1 at a time, as described below:

  • Imagine a golden yellow mist of qi arising from under the Earth and filling your body and connecting with the Spleen organ.  Feel this golden light of earth energy envelop your center core of divine white light energy, merging together.  This represents the energy of your intention (yi) to root and stabilize your power.
  • Begin to focus on your heart and imagine a portal opening and the qi flowing out your heart like a red swirling wind in front of you, full of power, protecting you with your spirit (shen) in the form of a fiery red phoenix. The red phoenix represents your innate sprit, alive graceful and powerful.
  • Focus on your back, especially the kidneys. Imagine a portal opening and the qi flowing from the kidney area like water.  From this water grows an enormous black turtle and snake. The shell of the turtle protects you like a might shield, and the snake is poised to attack anyone who approaches from the rear. The turtle represents your ancestral energy, protecting you and supporting you as well as your willpower (zhi) to survive.
  •  Place your attention on your lungs and visualize a portal opening on the right side of your body under the right ribs. Imagine the lung qi flowing out the right side of your body like steam forming a white tiger as strong as steel.  Imagine the tiger with 4 claws and teeth and 5 weapons. The tiger represents the material soul, the body’s animal nature (po); it guards and protects you with an animal passion for survival.
  • Place your attention on the liver and visualize a portal on the left side of your body under the left ribs (the yang energy of liver is energetically on the left). Imagine the liver qi flowing out the left side of your body like steam, forming a green dragon, sinewy and resilient.   Imagine the dragon with 4 claws, teeth and tail to make 6 weapons.  The dragon represents the body’s divine nature (hun), guarding and protecting you with a spiritual passion for victory.

Imagine the animals begin rotating to the left (counterclockwise), each one protecting, stalking and defending the previous animal’s position. Slowly being to circle these archetypical energies and gradually increase their speed until they are spinning faster and faster. As they spin faster and faster and whirl around you, the colors and powers blend together into a cocoon of protective energy.

After forming a protective rainbow energy bubble around your body, draw the energies back in through the crown point (baihui) and return the energy of each organ back to it’s origin. (red to heart, dark blue to the kidneys, green to the liver, and white to the lungs). As the colors return back to their organ of origin, imagine steam flowing up out of the pores and filling up the energy bubble in your auric field created by the animal’s rotations.  This forms a solid connection between the body’s internal organs and the body’s external field of energy.

When the protection of the body with the Five Elements is done.  Imagine the 7 sparkling lights of the Big Dipper shining above your head like diamonds.  The illumination of these 7 sparking stars represent your spiritual connection to the will of heaven.  You can now perform your activities knowing that you are physically, energetically and spiritually protected.

Rejuvenating Ourselves through Circulating the Meridian Energy Flows by Lisa Vanostrand

3 Treasures Healing - Learn Medical QiQong Healing with Lisa VanOstrandby Lisa Vanostrand

RIVERS OF LIFE
Rejuvenating Ourselves through Circulating the Meridian Energy Flows

Ancient Daoist Theories taught the importance of circulating our energy for self-cultivation as well as for health, healing and longevity. Although many people are familiar with the chakra system, fewer people are familiar with the acupuncture meridian system to the extent that they can actually identify the energetic pathways. In Chinese Medicine, it is well known that disease can only be present when there is a disharmony in the meridian energy flow.  Excesses, meaning there is too much energy, may represent what we are drawn to. Deficiencies, meaning there is too little energy, might be things we want to avoid.

There are 12 primary meridians: lung, large intestine, stomach, spleen, heart, small intestine, bladder, kidney, pericardium, triple burner, gall bladder and liver. Although each meridian has its own pathway, they connect to each other and it is important to think of the meridians as one continuous flow of energy as well as hyperlinks that can jump nonlinearly from place to place.

Jeffery Yuen, an 88th generation Daoist priest and Dean of Academic Affairs for the Acupuncture Program at the Swedish Institute, views the meridians as roadmaps of our energy. They are a reflection of the way we are living our life.  We might like to inhabit certain meridians more than others.  Meridians connect us with different aspects of ourselves and our relationship with the world.

We can learn to assess the state of the meridians by first starting to massage them.  Dr. Stephen Thomas Chang, in “The Complete Book of Acupuncture”, states that massaging the meridians is absolutely invaluable in augmenting the energy within the body, providing for a constant and unimpeded flow of energy along the meridians, and will eventually rejuvenate not only an aging body but a fatigued mind as well.  You can use your thumb or the bridge of your hand to follow the meridian line in the direction of their normal flow.  You can find diagrams of the meridian flows on my website, www.3treasureshealing.com as well as many other books and websites on Chinese Medicine.  Massaging your meridians will also help develop your intuitive perceptions of your energy.  A famous quote by my Medical Qigong teacher, Jerry Alan Johnson, is that “you can only heal what you can feel.”

Once you feel comfortable at the physical level, you may want to move to a meridian meditation and energetically trace the meridians with your mind and intention.

According to Dr Chang, the philosopher Lao-Tzu purported lived anywhere from 160 to 500 years and faithfully practiced, and strongly advocated the practice of meridian meditation to his disciples.

Rivers of Life is a 2 volume CD created by Lisa VanOstrand: The first volume is a guided meridian meditation.  The vocals are accompanied by the corresponding keys for each meridian. Meridian diagrams and explanations are included.  Volume 2 is the music for meridians.
